About the Meeting

The Karolinska Stroke Update Meeting was initiated by the Karolinska Stroke Research Unit (KSRU) at Karolinska University Hospital and the Karolinska Institute, in close collaboration with many colleagues in Europe, United States and other parts of the world.

Karolinska Institutet is one of the largest medical universitites in Europe. It appoints Nobel Prize Laureates in Physiology or Medicine.

Karolinska Stroke Update is an international meeting, attracting stroke experts from all over the world.

Purpose

The purpose of the Karolinska Stroke Update Meetings is to provide updates on recent stroke therapy research and to give an opportunity to discuss how these results may be implemented into clinical routine.

Each main session at the meeting includes presentations with different perspectives on a research topic, sometimes with a 'pro and con' -approach, to encourage a lively discussion. One of the session chairpersons will be responsible for preparing a proposed consensus statement, which will be discussed by the participants.

The discussions are essential. We will give a reasonable time for questions and debate so the meeting will prove to be a forum for optimism as well as scepticism and contribute to increased knowledge on stroke therapy.

For the upcoming meeting this year, we will review most of the current developments in the field, and if new data are presented before November 2014, they will be incorporated in the programme.
